Stones of Antiquity

Emeralds were the most valued stones in antiquity. Emeralds were loved for their rich green color, believed affect on fertility and their healing powers.  Here is a sample of a 1st-3rd century C.E. Roman earrings of gold, emeralds, amethysts and pearls from the Johns Hopkins Archaeological Museum.
