Why antique diamond prices are soaring

Research the guidelines for judging antique diamonds because they are different than judging modern diamonds. It is the soft shimmering glow of antique diamonds that can be so appealing. The characteristics of antique diamonds may have smaller tables, higher crowns, deeper pavilions and thicker girdles than contemporary diamonds. Antique diamonds are quite different from modern diamonds because they were cut to maximize carat weight, not fire.  Diamonds were cut by hand, a time-consuming process, until the beginning  1900’s. It is usual to find many beautiful antique diamonds re-cut with modern cutting techniques. People are willing to pay soaring prices for old cut diamonds. This answers a question as to why an antique diamond can cost more than a new diamond with the same carat weight.
