cannetilleJewelry with cannetille or filigree with intricate detailing was common in the early 1800s. A fine gold or silver thread is twisted spirally into scrolls or spirals.  Motifs included tendrils, scrolls, coils, beehives and spider-like rosette ornaments. Cannetille work could be found in almost every European nation during the 1820’s and 1830’s.The style remained popular through the Art Deco period. A good overview of cannetille can be found here
