Tips for evaluating antique jewelry

  • Look for quality such as sparkling stones, smooth plating and substantial weight. Do your research and know the few names that represent high end pieces.
  • Consider the person for whom you are buying if that is the case.  Personality matters.  If you are buying for investment then your selection is wide open and depends on your taste and your research.
  • Ask the dealer for background information on the piece, include the designer, materials used, age or era of the piece, distinguishing features and perhaps the background of the owner if known.  Keep a printed record for each piece.
